How to get to Arusha National Park

Arusha NP is just 45 minutes drive from the town of Arusha. Actually most of the accommodation in the town is found along the road leading to the National Park. Because Arusha city is the beginning point of all the safari in the northern part of Tanzania, it is possible to include a tour to this small park. There are a number of ways to arrive in Arusha town. The most recommended option to reach Arusha town is to fly into the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) that is located approximately 46 kilometers or 29 miles from Arusha. It is as well possible to directly fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), found close to the capital city Dar es Salaam and then fly to Arusha Airport (ARK) using the domestic flights.

Another cheaper but less clear alternative is to take a cheaper flight into Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) situated on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital city Nairobi, and then take a shuttle bus to the town of Arusha. You will be Picked-up early in the morning and finally arrive in Arusha at 4pm. Usually, your tour operator will receive you at the airport and then make all ongoing arrangements, as well as the charter flight into the park as per your arrangements.

Basing on your arrival time as well as departure, you can take a half day visit of this park either at the star or the end of your wildlife adventure on the northern Safari circuit if Tanzania. But if you have more time, you may spend a day or two in the park.

Airlines and ticket prices

You may check Skyscanner or, for those interested in flights to multiple destination you can check Expedia to find out which airlines is available to transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), or even Arusha Airport (ARK) and how much the tickets cost.

Domestic flights to Arusha National Park

Passport, visa and other entry requirements

Information about the Passport, visa plus other requirements at the point of entry can be acquired directly through your tour operator.

Arusha National Park is the nearest national park to the town of Arusha in the northern safari capital of Tanzania and a multi-faceted treasure, normally ignored by tourists, regardless of offering a chance to explore an appealing diversity of wildlife habitats in just a couple of hours.

The park entrance gate takes you into obscure montane forest home to the nosy blue monkeys as well as the vivid turacos plus trogons – the sole place in the northern Tanzania parks where the gymnastic black and white colobus monkeys can easily be seen. In the middle of this forest is the stunning Ngurdoto Crater, having steep, rocky cliffs that enclose a broad swampy floor scattered with numerous warthogs and large buffaloes.
