Umbwe Route, Kilimanjaro

The Umbwe

As the most challenging route, the Umbwe is a deservedly up scaled route to this mountain.

On a short and very hilly pathway, is where the Umbwe route accesses the peak from the southern end directly? Following along the southern circuit, the route goes on all the way up to the top of the mountain peak as you have reached the Barranco camp. The hikers usually take the Mweka Route when descending.

It is advised that only the more experienced and strong hikers should use the Umbwe route as it is known for being very trying and laborious. It is best for those that are much confident about their personal capability to conform to changing altitudes. The

Umbwe route

does not give you the opportunity good enough to conform because of the greater altitude that ascends so fast.

Even when this route has very few people that use it, with little congestion, it is not so likely that one is able to get to the peak of the mountain successfully. At least 6 days should be enough for one to trek the mountain using the Umbwe route.However, it is recommended that you choose to take the scheduled trek that goes on for 7 days as you try to subdue the Kilimanjaro while using the Umbwe route. All in all, the tourists more so inexperienced hikers are usually not advised o use the Umbwe route.

The main reason why this route is not much recommended and rather avoided is because it does not give hikers enough time to accommodate the changing attitude.

The hill at the moorlands that the route follows is forested and then continuing below to the southern ice fields as you reach the Barafu route that you take until the peak.

On the day of travel, you start very early in the morning in order to reach Stella point on the rim of the crater at dawn. In about 40 minutes along the rim, you find the Uhuru peak.

While at the mountain, the tents usually provide accommodation and these can be pitched for you by the porters. You will only need warm clothes, a sleeping bag as well as walking poles. The slope is very sharp, laborious and it is good for those people that are used to climbing up in mountain areas. If you need to rest or relax, your schedule could have an extra day. It is much enjoyable at the Barranco hut. Another route (Marangu as the most ideal) may work for you better if you are not so acclimatized to mountain climbing and camping. It is rather an easier route with paths that are angled and go through the lofty rain forests as you get to the Mandara hut. At the edge of the forest belt, is the Maundi Crater. This is such a perfect view for the mountain.

You can be able to visit mountain Kilimanjaro at any time of the year. It is however best if you avoid visiting during the rainy season. These are usually 2 during the months of late Mach to mid June, and October o the beginning of December.

The Umbwe

The Umbwe-Route possesses a richly deserved status of actually being the very challenging Kilimanjaro-route on this mountain.

The Umbwe-Route Approaches the summit from the south and it is a short, direct but rather steep trail.

once you arrive at the Barranco Camp, the route then follows on along the southern-circuit all the way up to the very mountain summit. When declining the hikers then take the Mweka-Route.

The Umbwe-Route is believed to be very challenging and a strenuous route which should be attempted particularly by strong experienced hikers that are much confident of their personal capability to acclimatize to change in altitude.

Because of the rapid ascension to greater altitude, the Umbwe-Route does not offer the essential levels for acclimatization. Despite the fact that the traffic along this route is quite very low, there are very low chances of successfully summiting the mountain.

The route is done in at least six days, although it is recommended that you opt for an itinerary that runs for seven days as you attempt to conquer the Kilimanjaro using the Umbwe. Nonetheless, in general the , Umbwe-Route is not advised to tourists especially inexperienced hikers.

The Umbwe is mainly avoided majorly because the ascent route does allow hikers enough time to regulate to the change in altitude.
