This game reserve is also located in the northern part of Malawi to the south west of the vast Nyika Plateau. It covers an area of 400sq km near the border with Zambia from the town of Mzuzu in the North West
Wildlife
Game viewing is great in the reserves since some animals cross the border into Malawi from Luangwa Game reserve. Some of the regular sights are large herds of African elephants, buffalos, hippos on lake Kazuni and the different species of antelopes such as duiker, impala, liechtenstein’s hartebeest, greater kudu, roan and eland among others.
Bird watching is a favorite adventure in Vwasa game reserve. More than 250 different species oif woodland and water birds are recorded in the par. Some of the regular birds include open billed stork, goliath’s heron, white faced tree duck and many others.
Although the reserve boosts well maintained tracks and walking trails, a few Malawi tourists come to the park every year. Nevertheless, there is cheap accommodation at Kazuni safari camp near the lake and a self catering camping site as well. Kazuni safari camp has 4 twin bed chalets, a restaurant and bar.
