Day Trip to Tipasa – Roman Ruins by the Sea

After breakfast, drive west to Tipasa, a Roman-Berber coastal city known for ruins overlooking the sea. Walk among the amphitheater, early Christian basilicas, forum, and temples. Visit the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, believed to hold the tomb of Cleopatra Selene II.

Return to Algiers in the evening for overnight.

3

Algiers to Djemila – Roman Heritage and Mosaic Art

Leave Algiers early for Djemila, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins here are among the most beautiful in North Africa, set in a mountain valley. Explore the Triumphal Arch of Caracalla, Capitolium, houses with preserved mosaics, and the Museum of Djemila.

Continue to Setif for overnight. The city features colonial French architecture and a relaxed atmosphere.

4

Timgad – Africa’s Grid City of the Romans

Depart Setif for Timgad, known for its classic Roman town plan. The Trajan Arch, library, theatre, and Cardo Maximus reflect Roman urban design and culture. Take your time walking across its ancient streets, colonnades, and temple foundations.

In the afternoon, head to Batna for overnight stay.

5

Constantine – Bridges and Ottoman Legacy

Transfer to Constantine, Algeria’s dramatic city of gorges, plateaus, and bridges. Visit the Sidi M’Cid Suspension Bridge, the Medersa, and the Palace of Ahmed Bey, built in the early 1800s.

Stop at the Museum of Cirta to learn about Constantine’s Greek, Roman, and Islamic history. Walk the old medina and shop for embroidered fabrics and traditional ceramics. Overnight in Constantine.

6

Free Morning in Constantine – Afternoon Flight to Ghardaïa

Spend your morning relaxing in Constantine or visiting a local café and market. In the afternoon, take a domestic flight to Ghardaïa, gateway to the Sahara and center of the Mzab Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Arrive and transfer to your desert guesthouse or traditional inn. Overnight in Ghardaïa.

7

Ghardaïa – Mzab Valley and Ibadite Culture

Explore the whitewashed cities of the Mzab Valley: Ghardaïa, Beni Isguen, El Atteuf, and Melika. These fortified towns were built by the Ibadite Berbers, with distinctive architecture featuring narrow alleys, watchtowers, and flat-roof homes.

Visit local markets and mosques, and learn about the unique social customs, religious practices, and dress codes that govern daily life. Overnight in Ghardaïa.

8

Sahara Culture and Palm Groves

Visit desert settlements and explore oasis communities on the outskirts of Ghardaïa. Learn how locals manage irrigation canals (foggara) and see palm groves, clay granaries, and traditional olive presses. Optional visit to artisan workshops producing carpets, leather, or ceramics.

Enjoy dinner under the stars or attend a local musical performance. Overnight in Ghardaïa.
