Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Arrival in Accra – City Orientation & Local Cuisine

Arrive at Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, begin a light orientation tour of Accra featuring Independence Arch, Black Star Square, and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

Later, visit the Arts Centre for National Culture for handicrafts, textiles, and beadwork. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant featuring Ghanaian dishes like banku and tilapia.

Accra – W.E.B. Du Bois Centre & Jamestown Walking Tour

After breakfast, explore the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre to learn about his influence on African unity and civil rights. Continue to Jamestown, one of Accra’s oldest neighborhoods. Take a walking tour through the colonial lighthouse district and local boxing gyms.

In the afternoon, visit Makola Market and stop at the National Museum of Ghana to explore archaeological and cultural exhibits. Evening at leisure.

Drive to Cape Coast – Slave Castles & Elmina Fishing Harbor

Depart early for Cape Coast (approx. 3.5 hours). On arrival, visit Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a guided tour through its dungeons and "Door of No Return."

Continue to Elmina Castle, the oldest European structure south of the Sahara, and explore the Portuguese chapel, governor's quarters, and lookout points. Later, visit the Elmina fishing harbor to see traditional wooden canoes and bustling shoreline trade.

Kakum National Park & Posuban Shrine

Afterward, stop by the Posuban Shrine, where Asafo warrior groups historically gathered. Return to Elmina for a beachside evening.

Cape Coast to Kumasi – Ashanti Region Introduction

Leave the coast and head inland to Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Kingdom (approx. 5–6 hours). On arrival, visit the Manhyia Palace Museum, home of the Ashanti King, and learn about royal traditions, ancestral stools, and sacred regalia.

Explore the Kumasi Central Market, one of the largest in West Africa. Check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner in the city.

Ashanti Craft Villages – Adinkra Symbols & Kente Weaving

Spend the day visiting nearby craft villages outside Kumasi. Stop at Ntonso, known for Adinkra symbols hand-stamped onto cloth. Try your hand at stamping with natural dyes.

Continue to Bonwire, the heart of kente cloth weaving, where you'll watch weavers on traditional looms and learn about the patterns' meanings. Later, visit Ahwiaa, famous for wood carvings including stools and masks.

Return to Kumasi for the night.

Kumasi to Mole National Park – Scenic Northern Drive
