Day 1 - Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Our adventure kicks off bright and early as we depart Kampala, driving west through Uganda's picturesque countryside. The scenic 8 hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is half the fun! We'll stop along the way to stretch our legs, snap photos of local villages, and enjoy a tasty picnic lunch.
Known by locals as "Place of Darkness," Bwindi spans 120 square miles of dense jungle forest. Keep your binoculars ready to spot elephants, colorful rare bird species, and mischievous monkeys along the drive.
We'll arrive at our comfortable safari lodge just outside Bwindi in the late afternoon, ready to settle in and relax on the balcony with stunning views. After a delicious home-cooked dinner, it's early to bed in preparation for tomorrow's big day tracking mountain gorillas!
Day 2 - Gorilla Tracking
Rise and shine nice and early for a hearty breakfast at the lodge before we head into the forest to find the gorilla family we've been assigned by park rangers. Tracking them through the dense jungle and undergrowth can take anywhere from 2-8 hours depending on how far the group wandered since the trackers located them the evening prior.
Stay close to your guide as we traverse muddy trails and thick vegetation, listening closely for rumblings and rustling that signal the gorillas are near. The excitement builds as we finally spot them! You'll then get to quietly observe the gorilla family group up close for an incredible hour. Witnessing their human-like behaviors and interactions is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don't forget your camera - photos are allowed from a respectful distance.
After spending magical quality time with the gorillas, we'll hike back out of the jungle, no doubt exhausted but feeling so fulfilled. Time to head back to the lodge for a tasty lunch and a nap or relaxing afternoon on the veranda. Tonight, we'll toast our epic adventure over dinner!
Day 3 - Back to Kampala
On our final morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast at the lodge before driving back to Kampala. As we say farewell, I hope you loved every moment tracking these gentle jungle giants in the impenetrable Bwindi Forest. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is an experience you'll treasure for a lifetime!
