Gabon Wildlife Safaris | West Africa Nature Tours | Forest and Coast Safari in Gabon
Day 1: Arrival in Libreville – Transfer to Loango National Park via Port-Gentil or Gamba
Your Gabon safari begins with arrival at Libreville International Airport, where a tour representative will meet you for a briefing. After immigration and customs, you’ll be assisted with your domestic flight or charter transfer to either Port-Gentil or Gamba, depending on current transport schedules and weather conditions.
From Port-Gentil or Gamba, you will proceed to Loango National Park by 4×4 vehicle or boat transfer. This park, located along the Atlantic coastline, is one of Gabon’s most biodiverse regions, combining rainforest, wetlands, and open beaches. It covers around 1,550 square kilometers and is part of a larger protected zone stretching into the lagoon systems of Iguela.
On arrival at your lodge (such as Akaka Camp or Loango Lodge), enjoy a late lunch or early dinner depending on your arrival time. Relax with views of the nearby estuaries or beaches, where hippos have occasionally been sighted entering the surf.
Evening at leisure with time to settle in and listen to the nocturnal forest sounds. Overnight at your selected eco-lodge inside or on the edge of the park.
Day 2: Full-Day Safari in Loango National Park – Wildlife, Lagoons, and Forest Excursion
After breakfast, you’ll set off on a full-day guided safari within Loango National Park. The day’s activities will vary depending on current animal movement, seasonality, and weather, but can include:
Loango is one of the few places where buffaloes and elephants are occasionally seen along the beach. Birders will find the park rewarding, with over 380 species recorded, including African grey parrots, palm-nut vultures, and blue-breasted kingfishers.
Lunch is either packed or enjoyed at a scenic stop along the route. Your guide will interpret the forest’s ecology and help identify animal signs, dung, and footprints that mark the presence of larger mammals.
Return to camp in the late afternoon. Optional evening walk or canoe ride near camp, depending on time and energy. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 3: Morning Safari or Cultural Visit – Return to Libreville
Early morning optional nature walk or short boat excursion for a final chance to view wildlife in the calm of dawn. After breakfast, check out from the lodge and begin your return transfer to Port-Gentil or Gamba for your flight back to Libreville.
If logistics allow, a brief cultural visit to a nearby fishing village may be included. These small communities live off the coast and estuaries, relying on traditional fishing methods and forest resources.
Upon reaching Libreville, you will be transferred to your hotel or to the international terminal for your outbound flight.
