Explore Madagascar’s Unique Wildlife in Just Four Days – Lemurs, Chameleons, Rainforests, and Cultural Highlights
Madagascar Safaris | Andasibe National Park | Lemur Tours | Madagascar Rainforest Trips
Meet your driver-guide at Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo. After a short briefing, begin your journey eastward to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, a 3.5-hour drive through Madagascar’s highland countryside. The route passes traditional villages, terraced rice fields, and eucalyptus plantations.
On arrival, check in at your forest lodge. In the evening, take a guided night walk near the park to spot mouse lemurs, chameleons, frogs, and other nocturnal species.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge, Andasibe Hotel, or similar.
After an early breakfast, enter Andasibe National Park with your local wildlife guide. Begin a morning rainforest walk to track Indri indri, the largest of all lemur species, known for its haunting, loud calls that echo through the forest. The park is also home to common brown lemurs, diademed sifakas, and bamboo lemurs.
Along the trails, look out for tree frogs, leaf-tailed geckos, and endemic birdlife like the Madagascar wagtail and the blue coua.
In the afternoon, visit Vakona Private Reserve, including Lemur Island, where rescued lemurs can be seen in semi-free-roaming conditions and may hop onto your shoulder. Return to your lodge for dinner.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge or similar.
Today is dedicated to a full-day excursion to Mantadia National Park, about 1 hour from Andasibe. This less-visited section of the rainforest offers a more rugged and wild experience. Trails pass through dense, untouched forest that is home to rare species like the black-and-white ruffed lemur, red-bellied lemur, and a wide range of orchids and carnivorous plants.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest before continuing the walk to natural pools, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints. Mantadia is also an excellent birding area with species such as the pitta-like ground roller and Madagascar blue pigeon.
Return to your lodge by late afternoon.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge or similar.
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Antananarivo. Depending on your departure schedule, you may visit the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former royal palace, or stop at the La Digue handicrafts market for locally made souvenirs.
Drop-off at your hotel in Antananarivo or at the airport for your international flight.
