Wildlife-Focused Safari to Etosha National Park – Ideal for First-Time Visitors to Namibia
Namibia Wildlife Safaris | Etosha National Park Tours | Namibia Short Safari Packages
Begin your safari with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Windhoek. Travel north toward Etosha National Park, a journey of approximately 5 to 6 hours, passing through Okahandja and Otjiwarongo. Arrive at the park’s southern entrance (Andersson Gate) in the early afternoon and check in at your lodge or rest camp near Okaukuejo.
After lunch, enter the park for your first game drive. You’ll explore waterholes near the edges of the Etosha Pan, a massive salt flat visible from space. Wildlife is often concentrated around these waterholes, especially during the dry season. Expect to see springbok, gemsbok, zebra, giraffe, elephant, and possibly lion or rhino.
Overnight at Okaukuejo Camp or Taleni Etosha Village.
Set off early for a full day of game viewing. Today’s route covers the central and eastern areas of Etosha, stopping at key waterholes like Okondeka, Halali, and Goas. The park is home to over 110 species of mammals, including black-faced impala, hartebeest, jackals, and endangered black rhinos. Large herds of elephants are often seen bathing or dusting near the water’s edge.
Lunch will be at Halali Camp inside the park. In the afternoon, continue your drive across grasslands and mopane woodlands before returning to your lodge by sunset.
Overnight at Okaukuejo Camp or similar.
Today focuses on the lesser-visited eastern side of Etosha. After breakfast, drive toward Namutoni, exploring remote areas where sightings of cheetah, hyena, and large herds of herbivores are common. Visit the Fischer’s Pan area, known for its birdlife during the green season, including flamingos, pelicans, and secretary birds.
Stop at natural waterholes such as Chudop and Klein Namutoni, ideal for photography. In the evening, you may relax at your lodge or participate in an optional night drive within the private reserve surrounding the camp.
Overnight at Mokuti Etosha Lodge or similar.
After an early breakfast, begin the journey back to Windhoek, passing through the towns of Tsumeb and Otavi. Enjoy scenic views of Namibia’s central highlands, with stops for rest and refreshments along the way. Depending on time, you may visit the wood carving market in Okahandja before arriving in Windhoek by late afternoon.
Drop-off at your hotel or Windhoek International Airport.
