5 Days Wildlife Safari in Namibia: Etosha, Okonjima & Cultural Encounters

You will be picked up from your hotel in Windhoek and travel north to Okonjima Nature Reserve, about 3.5 hours by road. This private reserve is home to the AfriCat Foundation, dedicated to the conservation of Namibia’s large carnivores.

After lunch and check-in, join a guided leopard tracking safari. Using radio telemetry, you’ll head into the bush to search for collared leopards in their natural habitat. You may also see cheetahs, spotted hyenas, and warthogs.

Dinner and overnight at Okonjima Plains Camp or similar.

After breakfast, continue north to Etosha National Park, arriving at the park’s southern gate by midday. After lunch and check-in at your lodge near Okaukuejo, head into the park for an afternoon game drive.

Etosha is one of the top safari destinations in Africa, covering over 22,000 square kilometers. You’ll drive between waterholes where elephant herds, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, giraffes, and predators are often seen.

Overnight at Okaukuejo Camp or Taleni Etosha Village.

Set out at sunrise for a full-day safari in Etosha, exploring the central and eastern sections. Visit key waterholes like Halali, Goas, and Rietfontein, where wildlife gathers, especially during dry months. Large herds of elephants and sightings of lions, black rhinos, and antelope species are possible.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park or stop at Halali rest camp. In the afternoon, continue your drive before returning to your lodge in time for sunset.

Overnight at Okaukuejo Camp or similar.

After breakfast, head toward the eastern region of Etosha, around the Namutoni area. This section is quieter and often rewards visitors with sightings of cheetahs, hyenas, and big herds of grazers. Visit the scenic Fischer’s Pan, especially rich in birdlife during the wet season.

Optional: Visit the old German fort at Namutoni and explore the surrounding walking trails in the evening.

Overnight at Mokuti Etosha Lodge or similar near the park’s eastern gate.

Begin the journey back to Windhoek after breakfast, a 6-hour drive through Namibia’s central highlands. Stop at Okahandja wood carving market, a great place to buy handmade crafts and carvings. You’ll arrive in Windhoek in the late afternoon and be dropped off at your hotel or at the international airport for your onward flight.
