This 6-day itinerary combines Sudan’s archaeological marvels and cultural cities. Explore Khartoum’s colonial relics and Sufi traditions, journey to the ancient city of Meroë, visit Nubian villages near Karima, and see desert pyramids, temples, tombs, and markets with expert local guidance.
Day 1: Arrival in Khartoum – Nile Confluence, Museums, and Orientation
Arrive at Khartoum International Airport, meet your guide, and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, begin exploring the capital.
Visit the National Museum of Sudan, home to extensive collections of artifacts from the Kingdoms of Kush and Meroë. Continue to the Ethnographic Museum, which details Sudan’s tribal heritage through traditional tools, clothing, and musical instruments.
Stop at the Confluence of the Blue and White Nile, a major geographical feature near Al-Mogran. Pass by the Presidential Palace, an architectural landmark dating to colonial times.
If your visit includes a Friday, attend a Sufi dervish ceremony at Hamed al-Nil Mosque in Omdurman at sunset.

Day 2: Full-Day Excursion to Meroë Pyramids
Depart after breakfast for a full-day trip to the Meroë pyramids, located in the Nubian Desert, around 220 km northeast of Khartoum. Travel along the desert highway, passing nomadic settlements and Acacia-dotted landscapes.
Explore the Royal Necropolis of Meroë, where steep-sided pyramids mark the tombs of ancient Nubian rulers. Some of the pyramids retain decorative reliefs and hieroglyphics. You’ll visit the North, South, and West cemeteries, each offering insight into Meroitic burial architecture.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade near the pyramids before returning to Khartoum in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Drive to Karima – Jebel Barkal and Nubian Villages
Start the day with a scenic drive north to Karima, approximately 6–7 hours through the Bayuda Desert. You’ll cross dry wadis, isolated villages, and camel herders on the route.
Reach Jebel Barkal, a sacred sandstone mountain considered holy by both ancient Egyptians and Nubians. Nearby are ruins of Temple of Amun, partially carved into the mountain, and Royal pyramids of Napata, once the capital of the Kushite kingdom.
Visit a Nubian village for tea with a local family and a walk through palm groves.

Day 4: Karima – El Kurru Tombs and Desert Exploration
Spend the day visiting archaeological sites near Karima. Start with El Kurru, a royal cemetery of the Napatan kings, where you’ll descend into underground tombs decorated with vivid scenes of gods and pharaohs.
Continue to the Necropolis of Nuri, where pyramids of later Kushite kings stand on the desert plain. Some tombs remain unrestored, giving an authentic feel of Sudan’s ancient past.
Later, enjoy a walk or optional camel ride through desert dunes before returning to your accommodation.

Day 5: Return to Khartoum via Old Dongola
After breakfast, start the return drive toward Khartoum, stopping at Old Dongola, a once-prosperous Christian kingdom in Nubia. Visit the ruins of cathedrals, stone houses, and Islamic-era mosques built from red bricks and mud.
Continue along the Nile southward, with a lunch stop en route. Arrive in Khartoum in the late afternoon and check into your hotel.

Day 6: Omdurman Markets, Mahdi Tomb, and Departure
Explore Omdurman, Sudan’s old capital and a key cultural hub. Start with a visit to the Mahdi’s Tomb, a revered national monument rebuilt after destruction during colonial conflicts.
Continue to the Khalifa House Museum, which preserves Mahdist-era artifacts including spears, rifles, coins, and documents.
Spend time browsing Omdurman Souk, one of the largest markets in Sudan, selling everything from incense and spices to textiles, camel saddles, and silver jewelry.
Return to your hotel for checkout and transfer to Khartoum International Airport for departure.
