Day 1 - Transfer To Kibale Forest National Park
Our adventure kicks off bright and early as we depart Kampala, driving west through Uganda's picturesque countryside. The scenic journey to Kibale Forest National Park is half the fun! We'll stop along the way to stretch our legs, snap photos of local villages, and enjoy a tasty lunch.
Day 2 - Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
Our adventure kicks off in western Uganda at Kibale Forest National Park. Home to the highest concentration of primates in Africa, including over 700 endangered chimpanzees, Kibale provides some of the best chimp tracking opportunities on the continent. An early morning start is key for locating these human cousins swinging through the treetops. The exhilaration of finding a troop will make the trek through dense jungle completely worth it! Retire to our eco-lodge outside the park for delicious cuisine and rest.
Stay close to your guide as we traverse muddy trails and thick vegetation, listening closely for rumblings and rustling that signal the gorillas are near. The excitement builds as we finally spot them! You'll then get to quietly observe the gorilla family group up close for an incredible hour. Witnessing their human-like behaviors and interactions is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don't forget your camera - photos are allowed from a respectful distance.
After spending magical quality time with the gorillas, we'll hike back out of the jungle, no doubt exhausted but feeling so fulfilled. Time to head back to the lodge for a tasty lunch and a nap or relaxing afternoon on the veranda. Tonight, we'll toast our epic adventure over dinner!
Day 3 - Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After breakfast, we'll embark on the scenic road trip to Bwindi, "Place of Darkness." Along the way, admire the quintessential African scenes of rural villages, local farmers tending their crops, and children waving as we drive by. Stop for a picnic lunch in the fresh air before completing the journey to our comfortable safari lodge near Bwindi's edge. Settle in and relax on your private balcony with sweeping views. Perk up for a briefing about tomorrow’s mountain gorilla tracking!
Day 4 - Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
The main event is here - gorilla trekking day! Enjoy an early breakfast to fuel up before meeting our guide and porters. Tracking the gorilla family requires stamina, trekking 2-6 hours through Bwindi’s dense jungle terrain. The excitement builds as we finally reach them! You'll be able to quietly observe their behaviors up close for an incredible hour. Only around 1,000 mountain gorillas remain worldwide, making this a true once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experience. Afterward, relish accomplishments over dinner at the lodge.
Day 5 - Golden Monkey Trekking Mgahinga
Wake up refreshed for a more relaxed day hiking Mgahinga Gorilla National Park next door to find playful golden monkeys swinging through the Virunga volcanoes. Watching their acrobatics and spotting their glowing fur is such a delight. Later, stretch legs on a guided walk through Garama Cave, formed over 3,000 years ago by volcanic eruptions. The Batwa community once lived in these caves before resettlement in 1992. Overnight again at our Bwindi lodge.
Day 6 - Transfer Back to Kampala
Enjoy one last tasty Ugandan breakfast this morning before departing for home. Farewell, my friends! I hope you loved this once-in-a-lifetime, up close encounter with Uganda's incredible primates. We'll never forget these magical 6 days!
