7 Days Namibia Safari: Etosha Wildlife, Desert Dunes & Swakopmund Coastline

Your 7-day Namibia safari holiday kicks off as you arrive at Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport. After completing immigration and baggage collection, a local guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the capital.

Depending on arrival time, you may take a city tour of Windhoek, visiting landmarks such as the Christ Church, Independence Museum, and the old Tintenpalast (Parliament Building). Windhoek offers a mix of African energy and German colonial charm, making it a great introduction to Namibia.

After breakfast, depart Windhoek and travel north to Etosha National Park, a journey of approximately 5.5–6 hours. Along the way, pass through small towns like Okahandja, famous for its wood carving markets, and Otjiwarongo.

Arrive at the Andersson Gate of Etosha by early afternoon. Enter the park and begin your first game drive, exploring the area near Okaukuejo. Wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, lions, springbok, kudu, and even rare black rhinos frequent the park’s many waterholes, especially during the dry season (May–October).

Spend the entire day inside Etosha National Park with your guide on a comprehensive game-viewing drive. This vast park covers over 22,000 square kilometers and centers around the Etosha Salt Pan, a flat, shimmering expanse that attracts thousands of flamingos after rains.

Venture through key areas such as Halali and Namutoni, stopping at prime waterholes like Nebrownii, Okondeka, and Salvadora. The park is home to over 100 species of mammals and 340 species of birds, making it a paradise for wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts.

Enjoy a bush picnic lunch before continuing your drive into the eastern regions of the park.

Today you journey southwest across Namibia’s changing landscapes, from bushveld to arid desert, en route to Swakopmund, the country’s premier coastal town. This drive, approximately 6–7 hours, takes you via Outjo, Uis, and past the towering Brandberg Mountain, Namibia’s highest peak.

Arrive in Swakopmund, a seaside town with Bavarian architecture, palm-lined streets, and fresh Atlantic breezes. Enjoy a coastal sunset walk or try local seafood at a beachfront restaurant.

Optional evening activities include quad biking on the dunes, a camel ride, or a visit to the Swakopmund Jetty.

After breakfast, set off early for Sossusvlei, home to the highest sand dunes in the world. This scenic 5–6 hour drive cuts through dramatic desert terrain and the Namib-Naukluft National Park, one of the oldest deserts on Earth.

Stop at Solitaire, a quirky desert outpost known for its famous apple pie and unique charm. Arrive at your lodge near Sesriem in time for sunset over the red dunes, a sight that transforms the landscape into a palette of orange, pink, and crimson hues.

This region is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its unique ecology and landscapes.

Overnight at Sossusvlei Lodge, Desert Quiver Camp, or Dead Valley Lodge.

Begin the day before dawn to drive into the park and climb Dune 45 or Big Daddy Dune in time for sunrise. Watch the desert come alive with color as the first light hits the sand dunes. Then, venture to Deadvlei, a surreal white clay pan with ancient, fossilized trees, a favorite for photographers.

Later, visit Sossusvlei, a clay pan sometimes filled with water after rare desert rains. Conclude your excursion with a visit to Sesriem Canyon, carved out over centuries by the Tsauchab River.

Return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon by the pool or with optional nature walks.

After a relaxed breakfast, begin your return journey to Windhoek via the scenic Remhoogte Pass, passing open grasslands, desert valleys, and mountain outcrops. Depending on your flight time, you may stop at craft markets along the way for souvenirs.

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport for your flight home, concluding your 7-day Namibia safari experience filled with desert wonders, wildlife encounters, and stunning landscapes.
