Arrival in Dakar – City Tour & Cultural Orientation

Arrive at Blaise Diagne International Airport, meet your guide, and transfer to your hotel in Dakar. After check-in and refreshment, begin a light afternoon city tour.

Visit the African Renaissance Monument, Africa’s tallest statue, for panoramic city views. Walk through Place de l’Indépendance, Dakar’s historic colonial center. Stop at the IFAN Museum for its notable West African art and ethnography collections.

Dinner at a local restaurant featuring Senegalese cuisine such as thiéboudienne or yassa chicken.

Gorée Island – Slave Trade History & UNESCO Heritage

After breakfast, transfer to the Dakar port and take a ferry to Gorée Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former slave depot.

Tour the House of Slaves, view the Door of No Return, and learn about West Africa’s colonial history. Walk the narrow lanes lined with pastel-colored colonial buildings and art galleries.

Enjoy lunch by the shore before returning to Dakar. Optional evening visit to the Corniche des Almadies for coastal sunset views.

Lac Rose & Bandia Wildlife Reserve

Leave Dakar after breakfast and drive northeast to Lac Retba (Pink Lake), famous for its shifting pink hue and high salt content. Take a 4x4 tour around the lake, meet salt harvesters, and ride a canoe if conditions allow.

Continue to Bandia Wildlife Reserve, where you’ll go on a guided open-vehicle safari to spot giraffes, zebras, warthogs, buffaloes, and antelopes. Stop for lunch at the reserve’s savannah-view restaurant.

Return to Dakar by evening.

Cross the Faidherbe Bridge, visit the Colonial Governor’s Palace, explore Guet Ndar (the fishermen’s quarter), and ride a horse-drawn carriage through the historic island streets.

Check in to a lodge near the delta and take a pirogue boat ride through the mangrove-lined waterways. Visit local fishing communities and observe oyster harvesting, weaving, or fish smoking.
