Later, visit Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia’s most picturesque town. Its cobblestone streets, blue-and-white architecture, and cliffside cafés offer a perfect introduction to the country’s Mediterranean charm. Enjoy free time to explore galleries and taste traditional pastries.

Return to Tunis for dinner and overnight stay.

2

Bardo Museum and Tunis Medina – Transfer to Kairouan

After breakfast, visit the Bardo National Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of Roman mosaics. The museum is housed in a former palace and offers insights into Tunisia’s Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic history.

Continue with a walking tour of the Medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with mosques, markets, and narrow alleyways filled with local crafts and aromas.

In the afternoon, depart for Kairouan, one of Islam’s holiest cities. Check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner in this historical town.

Overnight in Kairouan.

3

Kairouan Religious Sites – El Djem Roman Amphitheatre – Matmata

Explore Kairouan’s Great Mosque, a masterpiece of early Islamic architecture, along with the Aghlabid Basins and the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi. Visit the medina’s carpet workshops, where handwoven rugs follow ancient traditions.

Depart for El Djem, and visit the immense Roman amphitheater, among the best-preserved in the world. Walk through its underground passageways and climb to the upper levels for panoramic views.

After lunch, drive to Matmata, known for its troglodyte houses, underground dwellings used by Berber families to escape extreme desert temperatures. Visit a local home and see the circular dug-out design still in use today.

Dinner and overnight stay in Matmata.

4

Matmata to Douz – Camel Ride and Sahara Gateway

After breakfast, head deeper into the desert to Douz, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Along the way, admire views of semi-arid plains and stop at Tamazret, a Berber hill village with panoramic views.

Upon arrival in Douz, enjoy a short camel ride through the dunes and take in the peaceful silence of the Sahara.

Optional: Visit the Douz palm grove or a local souk for desert handicrafts.

Dinner and overnight in a desert lodge or traditional guesthouse in Douz.

5

Chott El Jerid – Tozeur Oasis and Old Medina

Depart Douz after breakfast and cross the Chott El Jerid, Tunisia’s largest salt lake, known for mirages and surreal scenery. Stop for photos and admire the salt flats that change color with the light.

Arrive in Tozeur, an oasis town known for its palm groves and distinctively patterned brickwork. Visit the old medina, Dar Cherait Museum, or take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the date plantations.

Optional activities include visiting Ong Jemel, a Star Wars filming location in the desert near Tozeur.

Dinner and overnight in Tozeur.

6

Tozeur to Sbeitla – Roman Ruins and Hill Country

After breakfast, depart Tozeur and travel east through Tunisia’s central regions. Stop at Sbeitla, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in North Africa. Walk through its expansive ruins, including temples, forums, and arches still standing amid rolling hills.

After your visit, continue north to Sousse, one of Tunisia’s top coastal cities. Check in to your hotel near the beach and relax after the long journey.

Dinner and overnight in Sousse.
