Arrival in Djibouti City – Introduction and Cultural Exploration

Arrive at Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport, where your guide meets you for transfer to your hotel.
Take an orientation walk around Place Menelik, the Hamoudi Mosque, and the central market. End your day along the Port of Djibouti waterfront to watch ships and fishermen against the backdrop of the Gulf of Tadjoura.

Lake Assal and Ardoukoba Volcano

Depart west for a full day of geological discovery. Begin with a visit to Goubet al-Kharab, a collapsed caldera along the coast known for sharp lava formations and eerie stillness. Hike part of the trail to Ardoukoba Volcano, which last erupted in 1978.

Continue to Lake Assal, a salt lake 155 meters below sea level. Observe the brilliant contrast of white salt crusts and turquoise water. Watch Afar salt traders and stop for photography before returning to the city.
