Track Madagascar’s Famous Lemurs and Endemic Wildlife Across Rainforests, Wetlands, and Lakeside Reserves
Madagascar Wildlife Tours | Primates of Madagascar | Lemur Trekking Safari | Andasibe & Palmarium Tours
Arrive at Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo. You’ll be met by your private driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in the capital city. Depending on arrival time, you may take a short city tour or rest.
Overnight at Hotel Belvedere, Maison Gallieni, or similar.
After breakfast, depart for Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, located about 3.5 hours east of the capital. Pass through scenic highland landscapes and small rural towns. On arrival, check in to your lodge nestled near the rainforest.
In the evening, take a guided night walk along the forest edge. Spot mouse lemurs, woolly lemurs, chameleons, and frogs.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, or similar.
Start early with a guided hike through Andasibe (Analamazaotra Reserve) in search of the Indri indri, the largest and most vocal of all lemur species. Other highlights include diademed sifakas, brown lemurs, and numerous rainforest birds like vangas and ground rollers.
In the afternoon, visit Vakona Private Reserve, where you’ll explore Lemur Island, home to rescued lemurs living in semi-free conditions.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge or similar.
Today, venture deeper into the rainforest at Mantadia National Park, an hour’s drive away. Hike through pristine forest trails in search of black-and-white ruffed lemurs, red-bellied lemurs, and rare plant species including orchids and tree ferns.
A picnic lunch will be served in the forest. Trails here are more rugged but less crowded, offering a more isolated experience with nature.
Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge or similar.
After breakfast, travel eastward to Manambato village (about 3 hours). From here, board a private boat transfer across Lake Rasoabe and the Pangalanes Canal to Akanin’ny Nofy (Palmarium Reserve), a peaceful private nature reserve on the lake’s edge.
Check into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. After dinner, take a night walk to observe the rare aye-aye, Madagascar’s elusive nocturnal lemur.
Overnight at Palmarium Lodge or Bush House.
Spend the day exploring the Palmarium Reserve, home to more than 10 species of lemurs including black lemurs, crowned lemurs, and Coquerel’s sifakas. The reserve offers close contact with habituated lemurs in a semi-wild setting.
Enjoy guided forest walks, relax by the lake, or take a canoe trip along the Pangalanes Canal.
Overnight at Palmarium Lodge or similar.
After breakfast, return by boat to Manambato and then continue by road to Antananarivo. This full-day journey retraces the route across the highlands, with stops along the way for lunch and photo opportunities.
Arrive in the capital in the late afternoon and check in to your hotel.
Overnight at Hotel Belvedere or similar.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may visit the handicrafts market at La Digue or the Royal Palace of Ambohimanga before your airport transfer.
