Visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial, Vilakazi Street, and the former homes of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Enjoy a traditional township lunch and hear stories from a local resident guide who shares personal insights into Soweto life.
Later in the day, transfer to your hotel in Johannesburg. Dinner on your own or at the hotel restaurant.
After breakfast, begin your journey to Mpumalanga, traveling through scenic mountain passes and picturesque farmland. Stop along the Panorama Route, one of South Africa’s most famous scenic drives.
Highlights include:
Check in at a lodge or guesthouse near Graskop or Hazyview. Enjoy dinner and overnight in the area.
Depart after breakfast for Kruger National Park, South Africa’s premier wildlife destination. Stretching over 19,000 square kilometers, it is home to nearly 150 species of mammals and over 500 bird species.
Arrive at Skukuza Rest Camp or a private lodge in Greater Kruger for lunch and check-in. Later, embark on an afternoon game drive in an open vehicle. Watch for elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and lions, especially near waterholes and rivers.
Dinner and overnight inside or near the park.
Wake before sunrise for a full-day safari, with a professional ranger navigating through prime wildlife areas. Travel across savannah plains, river valleys, and bushveld zones in search of Africa’s Big Five, elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard.
Midday breaks take place at rest camps such as Satara or Lower Sabie, where you’ll have time to eat and stretch. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon.
Enjoy dinner and an evening around a campfire, listening to bush sounds and ranger tales.
Rise early for a morning game drive, your last chance to spot elusive species before you exit the park.
After breakfast, depart Kruger and begin your journey south to KwaZulu-Natal, the land of the Zulu Kingdom. This long scenic drive may be split with a stopover depending on travel logistics.
Arrive in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi area, known for its cultural and ecological significance. Check in at a local lodge and rest after the day’s journey. Dinner and overnight in the region.
Spend your morning in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserve. It’s known for its white rhino conservation success and its rolling hills filled with wildlife such as nyalas, buffalo, elephants, and cheetahs.
After lunch, take a short drive to a nearby Zulu cultural village. Participate in a cultural tour, with dancing, storytelling, and insights into Zulu customs, family structure, and ancestral traditions. You’ll have the chance to try local food or crafts.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge near the park.
After breakfast, drive to St Lucia, a small coastal town nestled within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a hippo and crocodile boat cruise on the St Lucia Estuary, one of the largest in Africa.
This water safari offers a unique view of wildlife from the boat, with sightings of hippos, crocs, and water birds like fish eagles and herons.
In the afternoon, explore the beaches or coastal forest walks. Optional activities include kayaking or snorkeling.
Dinner and overnight in St Lucia or nearby.
After breakfast, drive south to King Shaka International Airport in Durban for your flight home or onward journey. The drive takes approximately 3 hours.
