This 8-day Sudan tour explores ancient civilizations, Nubian traditions, and remote archaeological wonders. Travel with expert guides from Khartoum to the Red Sea Desert, visiting pyramids, temples, royal tombs, Sufi shrines, and palm-lined villages. The route follows the Nile and includes daily cultural encounters and desert landscapes.

Day 1: Arrival in Khartoum – Nile Confluence and Museums

Arrive at Khartoum International Airport, meet your local guide, and transfer to your hotel. After check-in and lunch, begin your city exploration with a stop at the Confluence of the Blue and White Nile, one of Africa’s most important geographic points.

Next, visit the National Museum of Sudan, housing treasures from ancient Nubia including relocated temples and Christian-era frescoes. If time allows, continue to the Ethnographic Museum to understand the country’s cultural diversity.

Day 2: Drive to Meroë – Royal Necropolis and Desert Camp

Depart Khartoum early and travel northeast to Meroë (approx. 4–5 hours). Stop at Shendi town for local snacks and tea.

Arrive at the Royal Necropolis of Meroë, where over 40 pyramids rise in the Nubian Desert. Explore the North and South Cemeteries, learn about the Meroitic Kingdom, and view burial chambers and stelae inscriptions.

Settle into a desert camp nearby and enjoy a quiet evening under the stars.

Day 3: Meroë Temples and Transfer to Karima via Bayuda Desert

After sunrise views of the pyramids and breakfast, explore the nearby Royal City ruins—palaces, residential quarters, and a temple dedicated to Amun.

Begin the long drive westward across the Bayuda Desert, a harsh but scenic route with basalt hills, dry riverbeds, and nomadic settlements. Cross the Nile at Abu Hamed and continue toward Karima, near Jebel Barkal.

Arrive late afternoon and check in at the local Nubian guesthouse.

Day 4: Karima – Jebel Barkal and El Kurru Tombs

Later, visit the Royal Necropolis of El Kurru. Descend into subterranean tombs richly decorated with images of gods and hieroglyphics.

Day 5: Nuri Pyramids and Nile Viewpoints

Travel by 4×4 to the Pyramids of Nuri, a site that includes the tomb of Taharka, one of the most powerful pharaohs of the 25th Dynasty. The surrounding dunes offer panoramic views of the Nile floodplains and desert cliffs.

Visit a nearby camel market (if operating), then return to Karima for lunch.

Spend the afternoon at leisure or join a short hike for sunset photos over the Nile.

Day 6: Old Dongola – Islamic and Christian Ruins

Meet locals in surrounding villages, visit open-air mosques, and enjoy tea under the shade of tamarind trees. Drive back to Karima by evening.

Day 7: Return to Khartoum – Omdurman Markets and Mahdi Tomb

Begin the return trip south to Khartoum (approx. 6–7 hours). Stop at local rest points along the Nile.

On arrival, head to Omdurman, the old capital. Visit the Mahdi’s Tomb, a national symbol of resistance against colonial forces, and explore the Khalifa House Museum nearby. End the day in Omdurman Souk, the largest market in Sudan, with stalls for incense, leather goods, gold jewelry, and textiles.
