Malawi Safari Holidays | Multi-Park Wildlife Adventures | Lake Malawi Packages | Nyika Plateau Tours
Your Malawi safari adventure begins upon arrival at Lilongwe International Airport. After meeting your guide, you’ll drive south toward Liwonde National Park, which is one of Malawi’s top wildlife destinations, especially known for its elephants, hippos, birdlife, and the restored populations of lions, cheetahs, and rhinos.
Arrive in the afternoon at Mvuu Camp or similar accommodation. Enjoy your first afternoon game drive through woodlands and open floodplains.
Dinner and overnight inside the park.
Start with an early morning game drive where elephants, waterbucks, and baboons are commonly seen. Bird lovers will appreciate the presence of African fish eagles, kingfishers, and bee-eaters.
After lunch, head out on a boat safari on the Shire River, offering close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, and a wide range of birds nesting along the banks.
Return to camp for dinner and a second night under the stars.
After breakfast, set off for Majete Wildlife Reserve, a conservation success story located in Malawi’s Lower Shire Valley. Majete was the first park in the country to host all of the Big Five species after reintroductions by African Parks.
Check in at Thawale Lodge or similar, then head out for an afternoon game drive to explore the woodlands and river systems where you may spot lions, elephants, buffalo, and eland.
Dinner and overnight in the reserve.
Enjoy a morning game drive through the heart of Majete, followed by lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, take a guided walking safari, giving you a chance to track wildlife on foot and learn about the smaller flora and fauna of the reserve.
Optional cultural visits can be arranged to nearby villages.
Dinner and overnight stay at Majete.
Leave the reserve and drive to the Zomba Plateau, once the colonial capital of Malawi and now a cool, scenic upland region. The plateau is famous for its pine and cedar forests, cascading streams, and panoramic viewpoints.
Check in at Sunbird Ku Chawe or similar. Enjoy a forest walk or horse ride through mountain trails, or visit Emperor’s View for stunning vistas over southern Malawi.
Dinner and overnight in Zomba.
Depending on availability, you may:
Nyika is Malawi’s largest park and the only high-altitude wildlife reserve in Central Africa, located over 2,000 meters above sea level. It offers large herds of eland, roan antelope, zebras, and the rare leopard, along with endless rolling grasslands and wildflowers.
Check in at Chelinda Lodge or Chelinda Camp.
Dinner and overnight on the plateau.
Spend the day exploring Nyika National Park on game drives and walks. The plateau supports unique wildlife not easily seen elsewhere in Malawi, including bush pigs, duikers, jackals, and over 400 species of birds.
Enjoy the open scenery dotted with occasional woodland patches, waterfalls, and valleys.
Return for dinner and overnight at Chelinda.
After breakfast, transfer to Lake Malawi, arriving in the Nkhata Bay or Likoma Island area depending on logistics. Check in at a lakeside lodge such as Kaya Mawa, Makuzi Beach Lodge, or Chintheche Inn.
Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake, swimming, or trying water sports like kayaking or snorkeling. The lake holds more freshwater fish species than any other in the world, especially colorful cichlids.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Malawi.
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast with lakeside views. Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be transferred to Lilongwe International Airport or Mzuzu Airport for your departure.
This concludes your 9 Days Malawi Adventure Safari, covering wildlife, mountain scenery, cultural landscapes, and lake relaxation.
